Welcome to Flying Squirrel Cabins Wilderness Retreat
The Yukon has always been a place of imagination and inspiration, where life thrives and many have come to find their destiny.
Powerful, pristine nature restores a person. You can feel so small when surrounded by these magnificent streams, rivers, lakes, forests and mountains; and yet you feel connected to the vastness of it all.
Welcome to my home on Dezadeash Lake and Kluane National Park, in Canada's Yukon Territory.

The Cabins
Located on 50+ acres of pristine forest at the south end of Dezadeash Lake, our four cabins offer an unforgettable wilderness experience.
With an extraordinary view of the mountains of Kluane National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Canada’s highest peaks – and nestled along Flying Squirrel Creek, relaxation and inspiration come easy while outdoor activities and abundant wildlife await just outside the door.
The four cabins are meant to function together for groups of up to 15 people.
Ti-tl’aat Mun (Dezadeash) Cabin
(“Ti-tl’aat Mun” means “headwaters Lake” and is the Southern Tutchone Indigenous name name for Dezadeash Lake.)
This is the original homestead built in 1970 by my father, Merle (aka the Flying Squirrel). This was my original home where so many stories were told and songs composed. As soon as you walk in, you’re transported to a timeless world where people live in harmony with the woods. You experience true Yukon living. Ideal for families or groups of 4 to 6 guests, this cabin serves as the gathering place for the guests in other cabins, with its a large living room, two wood stoves and kitchen with 2-burner propane stove.
Beaver Lodge
Looking out over Flying Squirrel Creek, the southern meadow and mountains marching toward the Chilkat Pass, the Beaver Lodge is named for the greatest hydro-engineers on Earth. Directly in front of the cabin, you'll see how the creek, the meadow, and even the forest has been shaped and changed by the busy activity of these amazing animals. With a large living room/kitchen area, and two sleeping rooms , and a sizable deck to take it all in, the Beaver Lodge is ideal for larger groups of friends or family who want to live together and build some wonderful memories as enduring as a beaver's dam. Ideal for couples or individual travellers, the Beaver Lodge (with two rooms – one with a bunk bed, the other with a queen-sized bed, plus a living room futon couch) can comfortably accommodate up to 5 guests.
Composers Cabin
An intimate hideaway with a stunning view of the St. Elias Mountains, the Composers Cabin is for the creative, the artist, and the romantic couple. Sitting beside the old fishing hole of Flying Squirrel Creek, the Composers Cabin is where you'll find inspiration and serenity. Ideal for couples or individuals.
The Aurora Perch
Perched atop a meadow looking out over Dezadeash Lake and the Saint Elias Mountains of Kluane National Park, the Aurora Perch offers a couple with a cozy view of the Northern Lights. Whether you are resting on the large elevated deck, reading by the fireplace or resting in the loft, you always have an unrestricted northern view should the Aurora Borealis suddenly appear over the lake. Ideal for couples or individual travellers.
